Is there any simple test you can do to verify that a diamond is genuine? I found a cut diamond, it must be about 1.2 carrots. I cannot determine if it is a fake, or if it is real. How would I know?

If I cannot tell if it is a real diamond or not by looking at it, why would I want to know whether it was real or not?

Some information on the internet said it is difficult to fake an inclusion in a diamond. In other words if the diamond is not flawless (or near flawless), it is more difficult to spot!

I think I meant if the diamond was flawless then it is easier to fake.

get a microscope for the eye and see for yourself, if it doesn't have any graining on the diamond, it isn't real, plus, if you can't scratch glass with it, its not real

The easiest way is the fog test.
Hold it close to your mouth, and breath heavily on it. Remember fogging up the car window as a kid to write words there? Same thing. A diamond clears by the time you pull it back to look at it. A fake stone will stay fogged for a few seconds.

use a mirror or piece of glass. if the diamond is real then it will cut the glass. but truely most jewelers will test the authenticity of your diamonds at no cost and that is probably safer

take it to a jeweler. they will tell you if it's a diamond for free. A lot of materials will scratch glass, including more glass! Don't rely on that test!

a diamond is harder than glass, first test scratch glass with it.
but a synthetic diamond can also cut glass.
A jeweller could tell you for certain.
if its 1.2 c , real and of good quality its worth quite a lot of money.

I found a stone and took it to a valuer. Girl took one look at it and said it's not a diamond (although it did scratch glass). No charge.

see if it'll scratch another diamond. 1.2 carats - get it in a safe, it could be worth around £4000!!!
What is that RUBBISH about diamonds having a black dot in the middle????

Just take it to a jeweler and ask him if it's real. As far as people thinking that if it scratches glass it's real, glass will scratch glass!
