That's what they say, but how much of a female......? Think about it, the sex organs are not fully developed--and the human body goes though a process to become what it is. The stage of where the sex of the baby is happening may seem to look as if it's a female "anatomy", but it's just how the child is formed. So, I would not technically refer it to as we males start out as females.

The sex of a baby is determined at conception.
Not all baby's start out as females altough men and women all have the same organs just in different sizes and locations.
a women ovaries are like a man testicles only they decend upwards and a womens clitoris is like a mans penis only smaller.
all of womens eggs have X chromosomes a mans sperm has either XorY if an X sperm meets the X egg it makes XX which is female.. If a Y sperm meets the X egg it makes XY male.

s_sill . do you believe everything you read on the internet.
Sex is decided at conception. You are either male or female

The reasons why they can't tell you if your baby is a boy or a girl until your so far along is because a penis doesn't magically appear at conception. it needs time to grow.

This is basic science. XX From mother's gamete X OR Y from father's gamete The about a 50% chance of getting a male or female embryo (slightly off, due to proposed complexities such as sperm with y chromosomes being faster) based on whether or not you get an X or Y from the father. The reason they say that we are women early on is because androgen (which is responsible for many male characteristics) is present at higher levels in men than women. Thus the default, if were missing this hormone, would be to develop with the features of a woman. Though it is actually the differences in our chromosomes that generally determine whether or not we will have this level of androgen, and the characteristics that androgen affects are only secondary. The actual gene which determines genital development is the SRY gene, which is present on the Y chromosome. The same argument is made about the absence of this gene (if it is missing, we develop female genitalia by default). It is akin to saying that we all have tails by default, but a certain gene that we have produces a hormone that inhibits us from growing them. If we were missing this gene, and that hormone, we would have tails. It is mostly rubbish, and just stating things from a certain subjective perspective.

No. all babies start out androgynous (meaning no genitalia) it takes a while to have that X or Y chromosome kick into effect. Have you ever heard of a baby coming out with both a vagina and a penis? It happens rarely but it does happen.
Besides once you "start out" as a female there is generally no going back.

I dont understand why people ask this so often. You should really do some research on what exactly determines if a baby will be a boy or girl. It has to do with the x and y cromosones.

There is gender selection now, and they do stuff with the sperm and everything to make a boy or girl. That right there can say that no babies do not all start out as girls.

In a way, they do. All humans carry female genes. Females have female genes ONLY. Males have them in addition to male genes. When the phoetus is forming in the mother's womb, it is sexless for the first six weeks. After those first six weeks, male genes, if existant, start working and male organs start to develop. If they don't work until a few weeks after that (probably because it's a female), female organs develop automatically.

No, all babies do not start out as female, as babies implies they have already been birthed. All early fetuses start out as female. If testes are present, testosterone, the male hormone, is secreted beginning about 8 weeks and those fetuses become male.

simple game of genetics will determine the sex of your baby.

Every man and woman constitutes 22 pairs of chromosomes plus one pair that is the difference between them; these are the sexual chromosomes X and Y.

Men have the chromosomes pairing of XY and women have the pairing of XX.

- Both the egg and the spermatozoa have 23 chromosomes.

- The egg is always the carrier of the X chromosome

- The spermatozoa can carry either an X or a Y chromosome.

This means that it is the male side that determines the sex of the baby.
