No.

Some email programs have an option to request "read confirmation" when sending the email, and some email programs will send that confirmation when the email is read. But this option is switched off by default in all decent email programs. So there is no general method to be sure if the email was read.

The new Yahoo Beta might have the option, but it does not always work. When you get a read receipt you can click "no" if you want. So, they really only work if the person receiving the mail clicks on "yes" I read it. You cannot go back and see if someone has already read an e-mail. You have to attach a read receipt when the message is sent.

If it is important to know, the you can use the Yahoo E Card (with over 100 different greetings). Once it has been picked up, Yahoo will E Mail you with Date and Time. A most useful service and it is FREE.
Can be useful when timing of receipt is critical. Well worth a try.

You definately can on Microsoft Outlook, I use it every time Im asking someone to do something for me, cos you know they have read it so there is no excuse for them to say they only got to that email hours later

As long as you get auto confirmation, you have to believe that he/she has seen your message. Or else the only way is Just visit him directly and hide and watch whether he is reading your mail.

if you use microsoft outlook express, then there definitely is.
you can request the option of a "read recepit" which acts as a delivery report and as soon as the recipient opens the message, a success report will be e-mailed back to your account. it's kind of like delivery reports via sms on your mobile.

Under your email options you can click on "read receipt" and it will confirm when your email was received and read.
