Just because someone else wants to smoke, doesn't mean I should have to smell and inhale the smoke. I hated going out in college and coming home with my hair and clothes stinking like smoke. Banning smoking from certain areas is a wonderful thing.

Let me start by saying that I am not a smoker and never have been. Cigarette smoke is very bad for any ones health as has been proven in many medical studies. BUT.... allowing a group of people to decide what others may do that is not illegal is, in my opinion, usurping our freedom of choice. If a restaurant, bar or any other establishment CHOOSES to be smoke free that is the owners right, and if a person who smokes wants to frequent that establishment he must abide by the owners rules just as a non-smoker who doesn't like smoke should not frequent establishments that do not have smoking bans. WHY do we need more legislation telling us what we can and cannot do? Do we really need "Big Brother" taking over more of our freedom of choice?

I quit some 20 years ago.
I do not like to be around smokers.
I witness daily the trash that smokers leave behind - dumping their butts on the street from their car ashtray...dropping a butt on the ground outside of stores, flicking a lit cig from a car window (and possibly starting grass fires) and worst of the worse: smoking inside a house or car with little kids breathing in second-hand smoke.

However...I do feel that even if someone is stupid enough to smoke, they should have the right to do so.
If a restaurant or bar owner wants to allow smoking, they should have the right...and NOT some government telling them that smoking isn't allowed inside.

On the other hand, smoking in and around hospitals should be strictly enforced.
Otherwise, what the hell is the point of trying to make people healthy if they keep harming themselves (and others)?

I feel smoking should be an outdoor activity! Smoking bans inside public areas is very fair, I shouldn't be forced to be apart of someone Else's habit. When I want to eat and I have the smoke of someones cigarette in my face it ruins the whole meal not to mention the whole health issues.

Smoking is dangerous not just to the smoker, but to others who are exposed to the second-hand smoke. Therefore, people who choose to smoke should be respectful of other in choosing where to light up.

If someone wants to smoke, it's fine with me -- as long as he or she does it where it won't affect the health of non-smokers.

If it takes bans on smoking in certain areas to ensure the health and safety of others, then there should be bans.

It's only banned for a matter of appearances. It probably will never be made illegal...Remember who makes the most profit off tobacco and does the least to earn the money: governments.

As long as politicians can redistribute this money to their constituents through feel-good social programs, they will continue buying their voters and it will never be made illegal.

On the good side, without smoking, Social Security would blow-up several years sooner....

Gee Alyssa, the Surgeon General of the United States declared smoking a health hazard back in the 1960s, and there hasn't been any evidence to dispute it in 40 years. Unfortunately, our governments aren't concerned with health of its citizens except to the extent they can suck taxes out of us to spend on needless junk that only serves to make their rich contributors richer.

Yes, smoking should be banned, and cigarrete companies should be put out of business. PERIOD.

My feelings are that we aren't born smokers. Smokers decide, knowing that it's addictive, to puff on that butt. So why should I be forced to breathe in that smoke because smokers didn't feel like heeding the warnings of addiction and illness. Why should I be subjected to the possibility of illness, why should my son, because of inconsiderate smokers.
