My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant. I read that you can have some spotting in the beginning of your pregnancy. How would I know if it's my actual period, or just a spotting? Any advice.

Spotting is just that, barely enough to warrant using a pad or tampon. And it's most likely pinkish rather than red. I know of people who have been pregnant AND had periods, though!

This is what I do...if I suspect that I'm spotting (the period is much lighter than normal) I take a pregnancy test. If it comes back negative, I wait a month and see if I get my period. If not, I take another test. It's not exactly a scientific answer but I figure I'll find out one way or another. In relation to trying to get pregnant have you spoken with your OBGyn for advice? I've heard of women who plan to have sex more when they are ovulating, I'm not sure how this works. But your OB might be able to help you with that!

With a period usually comes with some cramping, bloating, cravings, etc. A period is usually heavier than spotting or implantation bleeding. Implantation bleeding is usually pretty light (no blood clots and not heavy bleeding) and a pinkish or brownish color. Implantation bleeding (spotting) is just blood coming out because the fertilized egg is attaching to the lining of the uterus.

You will know because peiods are longer and heavier, spotting will be very little/light, and won't last that long.

spotting = NO red red blood (only pink), no dripping blood, no clots, maybe some brown discharge (old blood)
