Sure.
People say it doesn't matter what others think, but it really does. It matters that they think your parents raised you well, and that you are a considerate person.
For instance, when hanging with your buds dress the way you want. Be hip, be with it. They care. If you go to a wedding or funeral, dress neatly. No one gives a damn. They will care that you wear an ironed long sleeved white shirt and clean pants and lace-up shoes instead of flip flops. It will give you a hundred years of good will.
So always act appropriately in a given situation. You will be rewarded in spades.

It may sound altruistic, but it's proved itself truer the older and wiser I get... learn to like yourself first, and all else will fall into place. Become an intelligent, loyal, spiritual, honest and forthright person that YOU can like, and the rest is a given.
