I've been living in the north most of my life, and that's where I currently live. I'm going to school in Massachusetts, and will be done with it next year. I was thinking about going down south to look for a job, because everything is so competitive here in the northeast. Is it as competitive down south?

It's much easier to find work in the South as opposed to the Northeast. For example, in Birmingham, the unemployment rate is about 3.2%, which is 30-40% less than the national average. Add the lower housing costs, WAY lower taxes, and a surpringly great lifestyle, and we're here for good. What's more the economy is moving along at a gallop, as opposed to the Northeast which appears to be essentially dead in the water.

The people here are very nice and hospitable. It is certainly worth checking out.

You will more than likely be paid a smaller salary down south, but the cost of living is lower. People are more laid back and it's a great place to live. Birmingham, Mobile, and Montgomery in Alabama are great cities as is Knoxville, TN. Also the New Orleans area is on the rebound too...

Do some research on employment in your chosen field and compare job potential.

Also, compare salaries in various areas, and cost of living. Do you want to live in a city, or is your chosen career one you can also do in small cities or small towns? Often the cost of living is lower in smaller cities, and the pace more relaxed.

I don't know anything about the southeastern states, but you might also look into western states, like Oregon and Washington, or New Mexico, Arizona, Texas.

Good luck and best wishes to you!
