The only difference is time.

The earth may die for the following reasons,

* An atomic war can end the earth.

* A natural calamity which happens once in a million years like what is gathering in the 'Yellow stone Park' US can end the life on the planet.

* A giant 'Tsunami' is possible in future any time.

* An esteroid collision can destroy the earth any time.

* The earth can die naturally but it will take billions of years.

The only question is when ?

But why worry.Enjoy life on your planet and contribute something to preserve the environment on earth..

Such people have predicted "The End" for centuries and will always be wrong, because their predictions are based upon misunderstandings of naive myths. The Earth will die when the Sun expands into a red giant star. That will happen 5,000,000,000 years or more in the future. Capn is discussing the death of life on earth, but you asked about Earth itself.
