SUSPENSION FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD.

I think 5 games is enough, that's 1/3 of his salary. They have it on tape, what happens next is up to the Public Defenders Office in that town. They are all ready looking into pressing charges.
So more will come.
The one thing I'm worried about is that, the hit on Trent Green and Chris Simms that the NFL fined the players for could also be determined as assaults. Which they could have charges pressed against them.

I think it is not enough. I am thinking of what may have happened if the cleat was an inch lower and had taken out the guy's eye. You must send a message.
On the topic of messages, I think he should receive some sort of counseling as well. A League mandated anger therapy or something of the sort. It seems this is not the only time something like this has happened. I especially like the story of him getting a pole to beat a guy after practice when he was in college.
ESPN poll: 58.6% say it was too lenient.

He should have AT LEAST been suspended for the remainder of the year... 5 games was nothing.. Ron aretest was suspended 73 games when he went into the stands of that basketball game a few years back and this guy only gets 5? What because they only play 16 in a year he doesnt deserve that much?

In relation to other penalties and fines given it's to much. The longest suspension in football for an in game incident was 2 games. Maybe that guy shouldn't have been laying there, JK. I am not saying that I dont' think it was a horrible thing. The NFL needs to be consistant, then if the other guy wants to pursue legal actions, then great he has a case.

Honestly 300lbs of anything shouldn't be allowed to throw a temper tantrum. These guys are supposed to be college educated, disiplined, and role-models. They are supposed to be better than a head stomp - that's crap from WWE wrestling, not football. The cops should've run out there and snaped the steel bracelets on'm and hauled him to county for booking. No only was it a crime, but a major disgrace to football in general. Bad sportsmanship, bad decision, bad person - period.

I agree that 5 games is not enough. That was completely barbaric and unprofessional. A lifetime ban is probably excessive, but I think a yearlong suspension would be warranted in this case.

I seem to be the only one who thinks its too much. He lashed out in frustration, it is his first offense (on the field), and he was remorseful right after the game. In looking at the video he really barely touched the guy - it was by no definition of the word a "stomp".
Way overblown in my opinion - the media just needed something to yap about.
Stupid - yes, season/career ending - no.

I agree that 5 games is too light. There is ZERO excuse for that display of stupidity, and for that wonton act of aggression. He's damned lucky that Gurode only needed stitches, instead of catching him in the eye with a cleat.

nope, not enough, what he did is a complete disgrace, I think the team should sit him out for at least another 3 games. if not the whole season.
Why is it that smoking a joint for ricky williams is much worse than assult with a deadly, spikey weapon. he practically stabbed him in the face...

Nope...well, let me put it this way...5 games should be a minimum. I think it certainly warrented more...maybe even for the rest of the season. You can't allow that type of stupidity.
