Oh Sunshine - I try so hard to maintain a child-like sense of wonder about the people & life around me, but as my youth slips away it's harder to hold onto those ideals that sustained me then.
When I am with my children I look at life with them, through their eyes & it renews the hope in myself. But since they are growing up & not always under my influence, their innocence is slipping away at times, too. Not to the point where they don't believe in Santa - yet!! But hang in there dear & look for the good in people, the beauty in Nature, the small voice inside of yourself that tells you what is right with your world. You can overcome some of your cynicism. I'm 44, by the way - been around the block.

Cynical? At times yes. I say that with regret as I do usually have some hope that what ever the situation is all will do what is right at the time but sadly I am usually disappointed. I am over 50 and have seen too much sometimes. Sad.

When I was forty I was very cynical. At fifty my cynicism was was worse. Now that I am 60 I am consumed with cynicism

I have also reached the point where I'm contemptuously, yea, verily, I am sneeringly distrustful of human nature, integrity, sincerity and motives to the point where I rejoice in integrity wherever I find it, even in those whose views and goals I find anathema. I even have my own cynical motto:
"Better one true enemy than a thousand false friends."
