Well as the prices of petroleum products vary from region to region within our country so do the prices of everything petroleum based.
In my region (I know this for fact too since I head up the purchasing department for a local area home builder) the average consumer is going to pay about $100.00 to $125.00 per ton of asphalt from your local driveway company. Those numbers are consistent with reputitable companies though licensced and insured properly to conduct business and warranty their work. Fly by night operations may come cheaper to you but you get what you pay for!
What this means to you is @ 3" thick (rolling compacts it to 2 1/2") a paver will yield 65 sq ft. per ton. If your driveway were 20' x 80' or 1,600 sq ft your estimate to pave your driveway should look somewhere in the neighborhood of 24 - 25 tons of asphalt @ $2,400.00 - $2,500.00.
Keep in mind most paving companies even companies that specailze in driveways typically have a minimum and always protect your own investment by using a reputable firm with the proper paperwork!
