ask your doc.
However, get your doctor to check out Dr Hales Medications and Mothers milk. Most docs have NO CLUE about medication and breastfeeding and witll often tell moms to stop nursing because of this or that medication, when either there is an alternative med or the med is fine to use while nursing.
Below I list Dr Hale's website forum on Medications and mothers milk. You or you doctor should find the medication you are thinking of taking on the forum and see what they say. And then discuss your options with your doctor.
When the forum reopens, your doctor can post a question to the forum if s/he needs to.

NO! I had a sinus infection recently and while taking antibiotics I also took a decongestant. Which by the way was prescribed by my sons pediatrician. Two days latter the little guy had a 104 fever, diarrhea, and wouldn't nurse at all. We ended up at the emergency room where they told us that decongestant in breast milk is like giving the baby straight caffeine. It speeds up the digestive system (hence the diarrhea) and acts as an appetite suppressant. I had to pump and throw out the milk for a 24 hour period and let the medicine run its course thru his little system. It was a long couple of days and he just cried and cried. Talk to your doctor first, but I would steer clear of the decongestant.

Ask your doctor, as we don't know about your physical condition, and any other meds you're taking.
