We live out in the country and I would see a few rats/mouse in my shed on occasion. We got an indoor/outdoor cat and she loves rats. I haven't seen any in a long time. And as a bonus now that the rats are gone we don't have snakes hanging around to eat them.

The best way to get them is with a trap with 1/2 a tootsie roll as bait- they can't resist it and it isn't like cheese that gets soft in the heat and is easy to get off without getting caught. They will get their teeth stuck in the tootsie and that is that.
