Shell are trying to bring gas in from the Atlantic and process it onland. Some locals want Shell to process the gas offshore. 5 locals spet 94 days in jail last summer over the issue. However 170 Gardai were needed this morning to get the site open.

If they are protesting peacefully, there is no reason why they should be arrested. If they are causing a disturbance to people then yeah

I'm tied on this one. I have friends who are involved in the protest and I also have friends working on the pipeline. I hear 2 very different sides to the story. As far as I can tell, Shell went about the whole thing in the wrong way and Erris has a very tight-knit community (well, they arent most of the time but when it comes to outsiders being involved, they all get together!)

The whole consultation process was wrong but if Gardai start removing protesters the whole thing will esculate further. Best leave them to it and they'll soon get tired.

I am beginning to think the protesters are being unreasonable.
There are so many problems that the gardai could be dealing with that they are unable to due to being down in Mayo keeping building sites open. As far as I am aware the protesters are in the minority in the local area and refuse to except the law of the land.

That said, Shell don't have the world's best record...

Difficult question

that's something we don't get reported on our news...BBC England. I'd need to know more before i comment truthfully. If i had to comment then yes i think the garda should remove them because surely it's trespassing.
