It depends a bit on your definition. A landlocked country is a country that does not touch open sea and can therefore not engage in trade via sea. Of those there are 43.
But some of these countries touch a landlocked sea, like Azerbaijan that touches the landlocked Caspian sea. If you exclude these, the answer is 39.

Any country that is not within 20 miles of the ocean on level terrian. After 20 miles the curvature of the earth makes it impossible to see over the horizon. This only works on flat land. So the answer by my calculations is 47.

Nepal,Afghan..etc.. in Asia
Austria,Swiss in Europe..etc.. in Europe
Paraguay,Uruguay..etc.. in S.America
Libya,Nigeria..etc..in Africa
Africa has the most such countries.
