The record attendance for an English Football League match is 83,260 for the 1st division match between Manchester United and Arsenal in 1948. The match was played at Maine Road, the home ground of Machester City, because Old Trafford was being rebuilt after bomb damage during the war.

The attendance of 84,569 was at an FA Cup match between Manchester City and Stoke City.

There are quite a few different stats you could consider, like 123,000+ for the 1923 FA Cup final, and about 140,000 for England Vs. Scotland, but I believe the largest actual league attendance was 83,260 for United v Arsenal at Maine Road in 1948 (United's ground was bombed during the war and needed some repair work)

biggest football league attendance looks like it was at Maine road, Manchester, City claim:-
"Highest Official Attendance – 84,569 v Stoke City, 3/3/1934 (this remains a record for games outside of London & Glasgow)"

I think trafford towns ground (Old Trafford) has a capacity of around 80,000 (seated), if standing was allowed there the capacity would dramtaically increase

I think that outside of Wembly for a final Maine Road was alose the highest attendance of 120,000+ in the pre seating days

i believe that for league games manchester united have this year overtaken their previous record of 70,000 ish. they get around 76,000 now every game. cup games in the 50's had some massive attendances, i believe around 100,000. i think the biggest in the uk was an old firm game in glasgow where there was something like 110,000
