Well in America we have a REPRESENTIVE Democracy, a repulic. This allows us to vote for the idiots who will lead us. We are better that way. Sure we end up with the same type of problems as alot BUT we can switch them out. If we the people would truly take back the power we could keep voting them out until they get it right and do what we say.

One could debate the relative importance as far as good government is concerned. However one thing democratic government defintely does for us: It helps reduce the possibility of civil war (without eliminating it altogether, of course). If I happened to be disgusted at what my government was doing, or if I felt oppressed, I would not take up arms, because I would know that I could vote against the government in the next election and perhaps they would be replaced. I would also have the option of starting my own political party. An ideal democracy, of course, wouldn't be so expensive. A cheapskate like me could go into politics! As it is, our democracy is seriously marred by the enormous expense of contending for political office. As far as costs to the country are concerned, I think that is well worth it for the stability and peace in the country.
So yes, democratic government, with all its fautlts, is important.

I know that I will get jumped for this but it isn't important. A form of government is needed to keep things in order, but it really does not make to much difference what type of government it is. There are benefits to democracy as we have the right to choose our leaders, if our leaders are not working out as is the case right now we can change leadership in an orderly fashion without using violence.
