A 2 W.
Acid to Water.
It keeps the acid from splattering.

If you do it the other way, you can get a violent reaction (especially Conc.H2SO4 - sulphuric acid). Acid splatters all to hell. It is also dangerous. It will make tiny holes on your clothes too. (You can start a new fashion trend..!)

Always add acid to water, a drop of acid at a time or very slowly.

Reason for mixing water and acid is to dilute the acid. By following the above method of dilution chances of acid burns are minimised.

eg. Consecrated sulphuric acid, has so much affinity for water, that if you add a drop of water to a container full of acid, it Will bounce and generate so much heat that bottle may blow up and the person performing the task may loose eye and get hurt very seriously.

In most cases, it makes little difference unless there is a large heat of solution involved, as is the case for concentrated sulfuric acid. Here adding acid to water is safer because the high volume of water acts as a heat-sink, keeping the system cooler...whereas adding water to acid can result in local overheating, boiling and spattering.

Figure it out. It is safer adding acid to water. The water is inert and adding acid to it will just dilute the acid at the point of contact. Adding water to full-strength acid could cause a nasty reaction at the point they meet.

Basically diluting of strong acid has a procedure of adding the acid drop by drop into the water according to how much concentrated acid ,that's all.....

U must add acid into water because if the solution were to splash, it will be water that will splash on ur hand, which is much safer than if acid were to get on u.
