Choices are dimmed when there is nothing for that choice to work on. So, for example, Copy will be dimmed if nothing is selected, Paste will be dimmed if the clipboard is empty. Save is often dimmed if no changes have been made to the file that need saving.

The deactivated menu options can't be applied at that time. The only become available when you're working with a document or something where you can actually USE those options.

what do you mean dimmed?

like now, when i hover my cursor on the drop down menu files- same will dim. i think this is normal.

Because those options aren't available.

Example: You can't paste until you've copied something.

They would NOT be available for use at those times. SOMETHINGS (those functions) would not want to be accessed during certain operations....
