It depends exactly what you mean by computing. If you haven't already got one, pick up an IT qualification like CLAIT or ECDL - these are available at most colleges as part-time or evening classes.
Armed with this, you need to decide which area of computing you want to get into. Talk to a student advisor.
It really is never too late - I have students in their 90's!

The best way to become successful in the IT industry is to start at the bottom and work your way up. Many companies have a hard time filling helpdesk positions because IT people want to skip past this part. I suggest you look for a customer service position which will get you used to taking calls from people. This will also help you brush up on technical and communication skills. During this time, work on your technical skills and take a CompTia A+ certification course. On-the-job training and formal education is necessary to excel in this field. Hope this helps.

Depends upon what you want to do within IT - Database, Web Design, Programming? Decide what you want to do first and then research.
As for age well you need to get a move on now - gets more difficult moving into IT later on.
Also suggest the use of a spell checker.

It's never too late to learn. Try to get a day or night job and take classes on the opposite schedule.
