I understand it is short for "little" and it seemed to start with lil bow wow and lil kim but now their are "lil" rappers that are not little at all! Whats up with that? Its getting annoying...same thing with "young". Its so ridiculous, i could make up one right now and people would believe its real.... lil onyx! How about lil mod, lil bigz, lil fro, ...it could go on forever!

from what i know, it's mostly a down south thing to add lil or young in front of your name. it so called gives you "status" in the hood. some add the lil or young because it fits their physical description but others do it to gain respect from others.

either cause they are young or could also be cause they are short ..I think its dumb 2 have LiL in front of your name cause when u get older it looks stupid ..but then again it fits LiL Jon perfectly ...

Big Snoop Dogg (used to be just "Snoop Dogg")
Maybe most of them choose to be "lil" because they don't want to say "big" and have it sound like they're full of themselves!
