I am not a democrat but I find this statement offensive. I do not like broad based indictments against large groups based on the actions of a few. However, I will give you an answer. If you study the history of war involving the United States you will find that more wars have been undertaken by Democrats than Republicans. There used to be saying " If you want a war elect a democrat".
Russ: The statement is a true one and was commonly used. However since you believe that Democrats do not start wars or conflicts let's just examine some major conflicts of the last century.
WWI - Woodrow Wilson Democrat
WWII - Franklin Roosevelt Democrat
Korea - Harry Truman Democrat
Cuban Missile Crisis - John Kennedy Democrat
Vietnam - Was never declared a war. It is true that Eisenhower and Kennedy both maintained advisor forces in the region, but it is Lyndon Johnson Democrat who escalated the conflict. Richard Nixon Republican gets credit for ending our involvement.
Gulf War I - George Bush Republican
Somalia - Bill Clinton Democrat
Kosovo - Bill Clinton Democrat
Afghanistan - George Bush Jr. Republican
Gulf War Extension - George Bush Jr. Republican
By my count that is 7-3 in favor of the Democrats, but we can call it 6-4 Democrat if you want to split hairs on Vietnam. The point made was not an indictment of Democrats, but was actually a defense of the fact that they do not have a history of shying away from conflict.

Dude LBJ basically lead us into 'Nam, you know the Democrats Iraq. Well since they basically call Iraq the Republican's 'Nam. JFK lead us through the Cuban Missle Crisis with this country on DEFCOM 2. Keep in mind 1 would mean that the nukes would be armed and ready to fired. They were proably pulling the codes out to drop it down to DEFCOM 1. I'm not a Democrat or a big defender of them BUT if you are going to specify CURRENT Democrats then I will defend their past. Nowadays they seem to be pretty weak about doing something. We could talk about Clinton going into war under the U.N. or NATO banner, but when it came to attacks on this country he didn't do much.

I liked the answer someone posted "If you want a war elect a Democrat"
The facts are that Republicans tend to start wars- the Democrats fight and finish them!
We started sending troops to Vietnam in Eisenhowers (Republican) administration
BTW where was Dubya when his unit went to Nam?
