What I'd rather see is Wal-Mart get forced to treat and pay their employees better, or exiled permanently to some 3rd world country where it's acceptable for people to be paid very little money and have hours cut to less than part time to avoid benefit coverage.

Sam Walton's probably rolling over and over in his grave.

No. It is the largest retailer in the world, and is the only means of many people to get goods. Its business practices to become the largest and ensure lowest prices are sometimes (very) questionable, and does seem to to have an adverse affect on economic systems in the town, city state that they are located in. Once the competition is limited, often then the small town's retail and employment options are reduced. But everyone needs to get basic goods to survive, which they do provide.

Outside of employee management, Wal-Mart is my favorite store. The prices are lower there than anywhere else, and they have huge selections. Reason, of course, Wal-Mart buys its merchandise in huge bulks, thus they could afford to charge less for goods and still make a profit.

Of course not.

The stores may not pay a lot, but it's more than many other competitors. How many people working at any other grocery store or retailer make more? Few to none.
Also, the distribution centers pay extremely well.

They do employ over a million people also. Hey, at least it's a job.

No, not necessarily. I'd like to see them scale back a little. They seem to come into small towns and open their doors, thus closing down small "mom and pop" businesses that have been around for decades. They shouldn't be allowed to monopolize the retail industry. That goes for the Target's, K-marts, and other big box stores as well.

Maybe they should work more with the little guy, but otherwise I like it. They are always open, where as the little guy isn't. They have lower prices than the little guy. And instead of going to 5 little guys for 5 things, I go to one megastore that has it all.

The only thing I do hate is the rednecks in there. Put a shirt on you hill billies.

Yes! Besides all I have heard of how they treat their employees, etc.... and think that it is terribly greedy and insensitive of them, I am also aware that the employees do have other options of where to work. (Possibly with the exception of very small towns where they have literally put all other retailers out of business).

But, I am personally so p*ssed at them - You know what they did to me? I used to shop there often. I was shopping one evening about 3 years ago, and got a doughnut out their ....doughnut area..., ate it while shopping and made sure that I kept the little waxed paper I had picked it up in in the cart. That was so that when I went to the checkout, in case I forgot about the doughnut, I would remember when I got to the waxed paper to tell the checker so that I could pay for it. I used to do that often and it was no problem.

The last time I was ever in a Wal-Mart, apparently the waxed paper had blown out of the cart, or stuck to something or I don't know what. But, it wasn't in the cart when I went to pay for approximately $75.00 worth of stuff & I forgot about it.

While I was on my way out of the store, I was stopped by an undercover security guy, along with 2 of his buddies. They accused me of having stolen the doughnut, brought me back to their little "team room", called the cops & I got arrested! I tried to pay for the 65 cent doughnut, trying to explain, but they said that if I had intended on paying for it, I would have done so at the checkout. So, besides being arrested for petty larceny, I was informed that if I ever entered the premisis of any Wal-Mart in my State again, I would be arrested for trespassing.

That wasn't enough for them. I started getting mail and persistant phone calls from their Main Store demanding $100.00 from me for reimbursement for the stupid doughnut! No kidding. True story. The doughnut incident (and obviously accident) ended up costing me over $1000.00 in attorneys fees, 18 weeks of supervised probation, and a year deferred jail sentence!

Wal-Mart is Evil, EViL, EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No way, they are nifty to have, and I work there and the benefits are great, and the hours/ environment is alot better than other places i've worked. Plus I just started and I make 8.20 an hour working overnights, which is good in South Dakota because the minimum wage here is 5.15 an hour.

Why would you ask such a question? Of course there are many who would want it to close business, but think about those guys working there whose livelyhood is there. they look after their families cause Walmart is there. Imagine you or your relative was working there then suddenly they closed . Your life would b e miserable and who knows........ Maybe u can find another job but that time between without a hjob until you get one is really a hard time.

They have a business structure that is specifically designed to destroy economys, and their building plans destroy the environment, as well as leave empty shells all over our nation. I'd like to see every single one of them close, the buildings razed, and the land turned into parks.

I'll pay higher prices to see that happen.
