At work, I write down the things that I have to do for the next 2-3 days. (I always have a large piece of paper near my hand:) When I get home, after some digging in the garden, my brain gets stimulated somehow :) and I have new ideas - which I write them down and send them by e-mail - to ME! so I won't forget them the next day.
Based on my experience, you are never 100% prepaired for ALL problems. Just take a deep breath, a good expresso and start solving them, one by one, calmly.
I try to anticipate problems - but that doesnt work 100%.
Wonder why :)

I do it the day before, and i make a schedule.
Start with the things that are most important and figure out how fast i can get them done, then everything else has to fit around those things.
Unfortunately, as the Chili Peppers said, nothing ever goes according to plan, so i try to have some free time before and after everything i do, in case it runs late or there is an emergency before hand.
ALWAYS plan ahead and be prepared for any problems.

I have a legal pad and a ton of post-it notepads. Legal pad is things I need to do, post-its are for the morning grocery run. Or for tacking them on the computer saying "Call John Smith in the morning" or stuff like that. I just write things down the night before because my mind can be a total sieve in the mornings. Heh.

Lay your clothes out the night before (check the weather 1st). If you bring a lunch w/ you, pack it the night before. If you bring a bag pack your bag the night before also.

put in your mind what things you wont do and plan to be flexable on other events that can hamper your every day goals, you wont need to reward yourself because your goals will do that, but you can be smiling on your efforts.
