Sounds like you hit the "show/hide" button. No biggee.

In Word, this button is on the toolbar, directly to the left of the percent box. It looks like a paragraph mark. It is a toggle button -- click it to turn it on, click to turn off.

There will be times when you want this capability -- for example, when you are trying to adjust spacing on a long document and you need to see the paragraph marks, spaces, tabs, section breaks. At that time, you will click the "show/hide" button to view these.

On the top right hand side of your Word toolbar you will see a symbol that resembles the mathematical pi symbol, next to the question mark. Press that and see what happens. It looks like you've selected the action that allows you to see every character you're choosing.

Hope that helps.
