as anyone would say practise makes perfect but if you wanted to get better you must find the appropriate size stem, the right type of flight, your dart weight that you are comfortable with (22g) and you must vary the throwing type.

Practice enough so that you become natural at it.
Then stand with one foot at the oche, with your hips and shoulder running through the point you are aiming at.
Lock your elbow at the same position.
Throw this way until your always throwing down that line.
Then all you need to adjust the force , ie. up or down the line.

When you get good at it, either swivel to re-aim at a different place, or move along the oche.
Once you can hit what you are going for, pay attention to the rhythm of 3 darts (don't spray-paint).
Join a league, and have a couple of hours with them before the game practicing. Play 'first to finish', start with 81 and take turns finishing, when it's finished go to 82, highest finish gets a pint.
The good news, is that darts is like riding a bike, once you put in the practice, you never forget.
I haven't played competitively for over 10 yrs. and don't even own a set of darts. But I can still beat everyone who challenges me, with the bar darts (three different weights and a broken flight).

i've been throwing darts for almost 20 years, and found you can NEVER get enough practice. besides, what other sport can you perfect by having a few pints and hanging with friends at your favorite pub?
