Until we get a complete history on this guy we won't know for sure. 20 years should have been long enough to get some closure thru a shrink. This might be caused by some chemical or natural toxin in the environment. His autopsy should tell something. Many people go untreated or sneak thru the cracks as schizophrenics. Many self medicate for most of their life with illegal drugs or alcohol. His wife should have known something was wrong with him. I would imagine it might have been triggered by some recent rejection of his own children by the Amish and their children.

Not at all. The right to own gun is an assurance that America can be a more free country some day. Right now it is partially slave of the worst terrorists. Bush etc. are just slaves and salesmen for these people. The forces who want to keep America slave are after gun control. After they control guns they will control you. Criminals and thugs will always have guns and Government will always have gun and so if they want they can make you really really slave. These shooting acts may have some hidden hand behind like those who created scares of SARS, anthrax and bird flu.

To start with, life presents both cheers and weeping. Life is cruel and life is happy, it is there to be lived up with. What the question raises the attention to has to do with an outstreches there happened in our society and yes it may cause concern in some parents. My view is this news is as any news out, found in the newspapers and it serves informative purpose. So I would of course tackle it somehow through my private eyeglasses and will thus preponderate my message its conserned as for my children.
To be more precise I would not get worried and I would not in general get too concerned about exactly what has happened. It informs me, however there is there a cruel trend and having in mind the season(spring, summer, autumn, winter) I would proceed accordingly also as for my policy to my children in school. :)))

Up until recently I felt it was children who where bullied in school getting back at their peers (see the book Vernon God Little)
But now with yesterdays attack on the Amish, who are the most passive people imaginable, I must admit, the world isn't a safe place, even for the innocent.

I do believe that we should all feel confident in sending our kids to school, and such an event as this, horrid as it may be, can happen anywhere and at anytime- on the way to school or in recreation centres.
We must not let these psychos have such an impact as to keep us confined to our homes in fear but take precautions to keep as safe as we can. There need to be steps taken to ensure counselling and therapy are widely available in schools to detect dangerous tendencies, and in as far as possible, drills are in place so that children know what to do in such a situation however the sad truth is we can never truly keep our kids safe. As such

Maybe not fear but a real concern.
Security needs to be provided. Armed Guards
Police stationed at the school .Something.

Yes it does. My children are getting ready right now, and I hope there are changes in their school. We live in a rural area, and I don't see any security at their school. I plan to bring this type of thing up in the parent teacher meeting. I think we parents need to really get active in our schools.

Not at all.

Read the Bill Dedman on MSNBC today. Very educational treatment of a very heartbreaking subject.

Yes it sure does and we even live in a school district and it scares me to high heaven. All of my kids go to different schools so most of you can imagine how scary that can be.
