If they are jailed prior to trial and have not been convicted of a felony than they may vote. If they have been convicted of a felony they may not vote not only while they are in jail but may never vote again.

Felons lost their right to vote while in jail, on probation, or parole. Many southern states give them back the right to vote without a pardon. In South Carolina a felon may register to vote again after serving his time.

If you are convicted of felony you lose your right to vote. If you are in jail and have not been convicted, although you cannot go to the polls if incarcerated, you could conceivably vote absentee if someone provided you with a ballot.

Convicted felons have permanently lost the right to vote.

If you're in jail pending disposition of arrest or trial, you can vote by absentee ballot.

contrary to popular beief a felony conviction does not perminately bar one from voting, after they have competed their sentence they can register and vote! If one is in a county jail for non felony charges, or one is awaiting trial, they can and do obtain an absentee ballot.

no but it's a classic debate....
convicted criminals seem to think that even after they have been found guilty and then placed in a correctional facility, that they still have rights. Although they do to some extent, I belive it only to be in the confindes of the prison that they "reside" in...I wouldn't want Mr. Contract Killer to assist in any way the enducational funding of my child by a vote. Even if his intentions are good.

Felons lose their right to vote once convicted, if you are in jail on a misdemeanour then ask about it.
