0011 then the countries number like 1 for the USA then the area code and then the phone number.

I think you dial 0011 before the number to get an international call from Australia... not sure though.

For example calling a Colorado US number

would become

0011 1 970 389 XXXX

0011 is the international operator and including their country code, after that you dial the number you want.
