the US is the same as here - depends wher you buy. in some places in the UK 235k wont get you anything, my double garage is probably worth more than 235k. in sparkhill in birmingham it will buy you a street full of houses with terrorists for neighbours.

Buying in the US....

if you buy in the hamptons you will be able to buy a pizza

if you buy in the middle of wisconsin you can buy.....well you could probably buy wisconsin

Depends where you're willing to live. In a large city, you may be able to buy a small apartment. In a suburban area, you may be able to buy a 3 bedroom house. Out in the rural south and midwest you will get the most for your money, but you may find it more difficult to find a well paid job, and these areas are notorious for bad weather. Also be prepared to pay at least $7,000 in various closing costs (bank fees, lawyer fees, realtor fees, home inspection fees).

It really depends. Real estate prices vary widely. I would think that you could afford something decent anywhere. If you are near a major city you will probably have something smaller and/or have to commute a long time into the city. In a rural area you could afford a mansion. Good luck.
