what is the difference between place and space in novel?

This is a little vague but I would say place=setting and space=the context of a writing scene. For example is two people in your story are conversing, where are they: In the kitchen on the porch, etc...

I have also heard of writers reference space an place as:

Place = Where they write
Space = The mindset they use during writing
