yeah. and if a trucker can do so at some amish school, another might just pull off the highway and walk into my private prep school. i think i have good reason tobe afraid. there's no barriers, nothing stopping it, except one old secruity guard. what should i do? and does anyone wonder if this might be some sort of terrorist attack? it seems incredible, but maybe they could have engineered it somehow. first some wacko guy goes on his myspace and shows off guns. then the next day he shoots people with them. then a pervert goes into a school, rapes the girls at gunpoint, then shoots one and himself. then this trucker dude who pulled over into an amish school. killed 5 girls. i mean, at least im a guy, and it was girls who were targeted, but what should i do.my first instinct is to protect the girls, but if the guy has a shotgun......then.....oh well. what do you think i should do personally and what the nation should do as a whole?

I think the media coverage is feeding into this plague of shootings. Sick-o's with a death wish see some other sick-o getting the notoriety from attacking a school and decide that if they are going to go out, they might as well go out with an audience. I know it will never happen, but I think these guys' names should not be given out, their faces blurred out in photos, etc. Don't give them the satisfaction of getting the publicity. Then, maybe, future Columbine wannabes will be less inclined to take this route, because they know they won't see the publicity they want.

Just goes to show you that the schools have no idea how to protect themselves or the kids that go there everyday.

They should have had someone at the front door monitoring everyone that comes and goes with a least a bullet proof vest and pants and a handgun. There should have been an panic button that would have gone directly to the local police station letting them know that there is something seriously wrong at the school.

I believe it is time for everyone to wake up and install bullet proof glass like most banks have back east when someone enters they are searched from head to toe and then have to walk through a scanner like they have in all federal buildings.

If not at least give the kids permission to carry guns and weapons of their choice to school each day.

hi, i've never actually been to america but i just want to say this: for some reasons americans think that evryone wants to go there but what many DONT realise is that we (as in people who've never been) only see merica on tv and as much as hollywood tries to make america out to be "The American Dream", in then end i do trust the news more and i havent heard much good news from america recently. why istn there a stop to the whole "everyone can own a gun"-policy? why does security not increase after 3 incidents in schools happen within a week, killing alost 10 children? i'd be scared of even leaving the house there??
The American Dream is dyyyyying!

As a student you should not be needing to concern yourself with this problem it is up to the school hierarchy and the education system as a whole to work out a security plan.
If it were my school I would enclose it with an electric fence .
And a couple of armed guards sitting on each side of the gate.
Personally, work out a plan in your mind by asking yourself "what would I do in a situation like this?
Things like ,if I saw him coming where could I get out of sight with a bit of 4 by 2 wood and as he went past whack him good and hard so he is knocked off his feet.
There is always something you can try and do in self defence.
Also prayer is a powerful weapon Psalm 140.
Every day is a new day try not to let fear rule your life.
It may never happen.
Take care!

The bad guys prefer unarmed victims!!.
When seconds matter calling 911 and asking the bad guy to wait is not a viable option.

Better to have a gun and not need it than to need it and not have it!!!
**Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens.**

So you are against the private ownerships of gun! Do you believe in fire extinguishers? Why, you can always call the fire department!!

No Weapons Allowed
Criminals this is a defense free zone
All law abiding people have been disarmed for you

It shows you what a sick world we live in. How can you predict something like that happening?

You can't not without some warning. "Well look what is happening!" Hey, how many schools can afford the type of protection required, and still function?

The only way is to arm teachers or find the $$$ to pay for a police presence.

And no I wouldn't want to see teachers armed but what is an alternative?

Homeschooling is looking better and better to me. Our children are not safe anymore, it almost makes me want to weep! I think the government should not worry so much about this Neo-Vietnam and start paying attention to what is happening to thier own people!

When the cat's away, the mice shall play.

*sigh*

Read the Bill Dedman on MSNBC today. Very educational treatment of a very heartbreaking subject.

I have no children of my own right now but I must admit that when I do have them I think I will do home schooling. It is getting to dangerous to send children and even teachers to school now

3 school shootings in a week -- the odds are greatly in favor of it not being you getting shot -- there are millions of kids in school and just a handful dead -- but its just kind of a sad reflection of our culture. when you are voting age vote responsibly. find out who want to change things and who wants to just use political offices for power and money.
