Pass - my missus has rouble with percentages too
1% is 1/100th of the whole....
multiply 0.05 by 100 = 5
you have 1000 units (10 hundreds) so you have 50ml of whatever is disolved in the solution.
come on even I can shift the decimal point 1 place right for each 10x.... wake up!

50 g solute is the right answer. All answers saying something in ml comes out are wrong because you asked for a w/v % w means weight and is measured in g, not ml.
I know this because I work in a lab and I prepare solutions.
