It depends, I have particular routes around the countryside where I live that I time myself on...other times I just open the door and start running and it is only after a while I think about how far I have run and how far the route will be to get me home...
when I am stressed I forget about both distance and time...I just run!

Usually time. I have to get up in the morning and make sure that I get a run in before my husband leaves for work because I have a three-year-old son who obviously can't be left alone. So, I just know how much time I have before he leaves and I make sure to be back by then. I have loops in my neighborhood that I usually run and I know the distances, but it is still more about time for me.

It depends upon the situation. Usually time as when I am hiking, I do not know the set distance of my course. If I do know the distance, I try to track my progress by time versus distance and then calculate my average speed over the entire course.

Hello,
Well i measure my running by distance only...
As time waits for no one,and it won't wait for me...
And i am not as fast as i once was...
So if i can keep stretching out the distance i run...
Which i do,it puts a smile on my face each day...
Knowing that i still have the strength and stamina for the "other" pleasure's i enjoy day to day...
Such as tending gardens...
Thank You

When I go out running I like to measure it by how far I go because it doesn't seem like I've been running as long

If you see me running you had better start too for something bad is going down in the direction I am running away from.

By time. It's easier for me to see the calander or hourglass than the odometer in my car.
