Don't know about French films, but two very good films in foreign languages are:
City of God (Brazil, Portuguese with subtitles)
Tsotsi (South Africa, Xhosa, Zulu, Afrikaans with subtitles)

Well there is one called Manon of the Spring and the other before I do not know what its called. There is nudity in it.
