The main difference between a mouse and a rat is adult body length, excluding the tail. Mice are less than 5.5 inches; rats are more than 5.5 inches. Another difference is that mice have a distinct odor which rats do not have.

Mice and rats are two different animals. Both are rodents that may invade a home and cause damage. Both can carry disease. Mice are much smaller and much less aggressive. Mice usually weigh in at a few ounces. Rats can be much nearer a pound. Some of the large ones possibly over. Never weighed one myself. A rat can be as big as one of those purse size dogs.

the difference between a mouse and rat is the size.
mouse is much smaller, while a rat is much larger
go to wikipedia.com and then type in rat and it will give a range in size, etc.
