2007 is the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery. The campaign was led in 1807 by William Wilberforce from Hull and the LGBT Community in Hull is trying to link our general awareness campaign next year to the anti slavery campaign. We cannot find any published evidence of abuse of gay, lesbian or trans slaves - but we are sure there must be some. At that time Christians were slaughtering gay and trans members of Native American tribes.
If anyone has any useful information I would love to hear it - including any modern incidences of LGBT people being abused by the still flourishing international slave trade.

I may not have made the initial question clear enough. We are celebrating in Hull the abolition of Slave Trading - the LGBT Community would like to join that celebration. At the same time we need to highlight that fact that 200 years on there are millions of slaves. London is becoming a centre for international slave trading taking advantage of asylum seekers.
I was simply trying to find an historical link between LGBT people and the slave trading which would enable us to link our campaigns of awareness and anti discrimination to what will be come the city's dominant issue next year.

Some people answering this question seem to think that there is no such thing as slavery at the present time. This is totally incorrect. Child slavery exists in many countries in the third world, with child slavery in India perhaps being the best documented.
Unfortunately there is also widespread slave trafficking in women. Most of these women come from Eastern European countries and are forced to work in the sex industry in the west.
As for LGBT slavery, I think the slave owner seeking to exploit the LGBT slave would be thinking mainly of what the LGBT person could offer in particular. Again the sex industry comes to mind but apart from the general thought that sex industry work can be personally ensnaring I have not heard of any specifically LGBT slaves, although one might suppose that there are lesbians and bisexual women among the enslaved prostitutes working in our cities. Gays and T people generally don't have pimps and I suppose they are not good slave material.
On the other hand we do know that slave boys were common in the Ancient World. Just think of Alexander the Great.

International Slave Trade?? What International Slave Trade? I have never heard of such. It is a frightening thought that slavery would be tolerated at all, except in some remote, uncivilized populations/cultures.
There is much information regarding the importance and acceptance of homosexual groups among several American Indian Tribes. Is some tribes, it exists to this day. There is no taboo with homosexuality there, only the white Christian explorers or the Spanish explorers in their efforts to promote Christianity and convert everyone made it taboo for them. It is true what you say about the slaughter of gay members of North AMerican Indian tribes. Homosexuality is still okay with most indian tribes here. But among the slave population? Never heard of anything like that and I am from the south. It probably was hushed up since there was great taboo about even TALKING about it, much less acting out. I am sure that it DID exist, but you will have a difficult time finding resource material to support it.

It's not slavery that's being compared to LGBT, it's after the abolishing of slavery. The Anti-gay marriage campaign is proposing something that is no different than Jim Crow Laws.

but we are sure there must be some. (emphasis on must - why MUST there be?)
utterly moronic, and utterly selfish. is slavery not bad enough in its own right? are you not interested if homosexuals weren't harmed by it too? homosexuals were never used a slaves, they were put in jail. don't think you quite understand this
the white man equated the black man as an animal. gays were humans, just amoral criminals. do you get it now? there's no published evidence that it happened, because it never did. never, in any point in history have gays been used as slaves because they were gay. i studied history, and slavery, at university. slave owners felt no shame; it would have been recorded somewhere. if you are seriously seeking this out then i'm actually quite disgusted by this - your ignorance and your wish to feel victimised. quite sickening, really. seek help.

Even though I hate to admit it, but i slightly agree with Yohan h. there is a huge difference between the treatment of gays and slaves during this time... i wouldn't say that you were being selfish, just slightly misinformed, perhaps. all the best with your search

Homosexuality was such a taboo subject at that time that I think it would be very difficult to find any documentation.
