Vatsyayana's Kamasutra was written few thousand years back. To my knowledge there is no mention of the kind of dress ladies wore in those days. Saree is the traditional dress of Indian women for ages. A portion of the Saree was tied like an underwear around the waist and the reminder was wrapped in the traditional style. The director who directed the film probably did not do his research on ladies dresses in ancient India properly. If you go to Karla caves near Lonavla (near Pune ) the sculpture shows the type of dresses men and women wore in India before 2500 years.
