might this be a case of 'the grass is always greener...'? I was in China and in Thailand recently, and every second product I saw on the shelves of pharmacies etc was some sort of skin lightening cream/wash/cocktail. Back where I come from those same shelves are littered with tanning products. Absurd, isn't it? As long as people can make money by telling others who/how/what to be we'll have to deal with this kind of rubbish. Just remember what it's all about and don;t let it bother you. Generalizations don;t work one way or another.

any color skinned person can be beautiful. There is something called the golden ratio, and scientists have found that the human brain has been wired to think that a pretty face is one that is the most symettrical. I have seen some ugly girls with fair skin, there are ugly girls with with any color skin. I think it's more of a social thing to be attracted to a light skinned person. In my opinion there are more attractive white women than black women, maybe it's an economic and social thing that makes it so white women look better and are less obese.

That is not the fairness of women which attracts us. it is the structure of his face and body which attract us.... same is the case with the off white or black women's .. if there faces and body structure are good ... then surely it attracts us..... but the fact is that fairy lady attract our vision because of colour ....... as too dark lady can also do the same... but in the world too dark ladies are very few... fair are also very few... and intermediate are majority in the world....... And remember women are never beautiful by skin colour...... they are considered beautiful because of their nature, behavior....... it is the only truth ..... Because only Women's are the Mother of this WORLD....... OK Dear.........

The fascination with fair skin may be rooted in a number of things. One, dark skin is associated with labour and field work in the sun, and fair skin with wealth, aristocracy and higher education. A second theory is that light-skinned conquerors from the Aryans to the Moghuls and European colonisers set the standard for attractiveness in the poorer colonies with their dark-skinned majority.

Not sure about all cultures, but I think it's something along these lines;
Fair skinned women are fair skinned because they are sheltered from the sun ergo they are "high-born" since "low-born" women must toil (in the sun) and become dark.

No, that is not true at all... maybe it was centuries ago but who cares these days except for some retards?? If your statement is true, then why do people/women all over the world sit hours each week on the beach or suntan machine, or even buy makeup to look tanned??
Also, beauty lies in eyes of the beholder.

In my mothers youth (she was born 1915) Women used to rub zinc cream on to their skin to appear whiter than what they were, so I guess a lot of it is just conditioning
