I’m asking this because I notice there seems to be a huge disdain for anything spiritual. What’s the demographic of the abovementioned crowd? Any idea? Would these be atheists; or people who haven’t come of age yet and who haven’t yet discovered the spiritual? Or would they be people who do have a religion (officially), but who don’t have an interest in it? Is Atheism more widespread than I thought? Oh, and by the way, this is not a forum. The forum section is spelt f-o-r-u-m. I’m just gathering information here. Don’t curse me, lest it return to you.

I’ll try to make things easy. When I say atheist, let’s just say we’ll exclude people who do believe in any spiritual realm at all (even if it’s just the paranormal or a non-organized religion or a long-forgotten god). OK?

It is certainly very widespread in Singapore. Many of us profess to be free-thinkers. And certainly among many who are registered to be religious are only nominally religious and do not adhere to religious practices. Some of us only follow the parental choice.

Okay, I'll be sure not to curse you. As for your question, what country are you asking about?

I would imagine various forms of atheism are quite widespread, as are various forms of Christianity and other types of religion. Why does it matter?

Atheists are simply people who believe that goodness and mercy are their own reward, and so it isn't necessary to invent a magical land far far away where good deeds can be rewarded, and people get really bored singing verses all day every day throughout eternity.

Does that answer your question? If you want to believe in God, there's nothing wrong with that.

It can be hard to tell since most people are reluctant to discuss their beliefs. I believe most urban Americans are Athiest or at best Agnostic. If you don't beleive me sit on the road to Church during from 9-11a on a Sunday and compare it to Rush hour traffic for that neiborhood. You'll see that the number of people going to work far outstrips the number going to church. Come back and see how busy those streets are at 2p on Sunday. Most people in the city just aren't going to Church. It's not about age, generally the relationship between experience and faith is inverted. The older you get and the more disappointments you face the more likely you are to surrender your faith. This estimate wouldn't include people who have a religion and disregard it, only those who have renounced their faith or simply never had it.

Atheists are in the minority. They are also not unified, so they are spread out & not connected as a group as such. Because they are in the minority & surrounded by believers, they often tend to keep their thoughts to themselves. Because they are often isolated, they keep quiet because they have no one to share their take on life.
People who believe in the spiritual are in the majority almost everywhere you go, whether they are church affiliated or not. Since no one keeps records of how many are atheists, I would say that they are most likely under 10% of the world population, and more likely under 5% of the world population in actuality.
Atheism isn't really out there in the general population as such. When was the last time you drove by an atheist organization builiding?

i does not say Atheism is greater popular. Christianity is somewhat greater popular. i could say there is greater agnostics than atheists. once you spot your pal's killed or wounded you specially circumstances grow to be perplexed spiritually and sweetness why could any god ok this. same ingredient once you spot babies killed a minimum of for me. i take advantage of to think of i replaced into an atheist yet then found out i'm no longer, its basically that i do no longer comprehend what there is yet i don't have faith in prepared religions. once you spot how evil people are or could be you ask your self the type you're able to have confidence people to jot down the words of god and not manage issues for means and money. Sorry I went a sprint off subject rely i think of.

Probably more than are documented, honestly. People get a lot of hostility for speaking out about it around here, which is probably why it seems like more on the relatively safe Internet.

You are confusing "spirituality" with religion. Most religious people have NO spirituality because they are too concerned with DOCTRINE, while many non-religious people are VERY spiritual because they don't have all that ridiculous doctrine getting BETWEEN them and God (or the Great Spirit, to use the Native American term).

Several sites list atheism/agnosticism as the third largest "religion" in the world.
