Was watching Montel yesterday & this was the subject of the show....
Some of the people had 2 felonies, but was busted for something minor like shoplifting & got 25 yrs to life....
Should the 3 strikes law be for ALL crimes commited...even petty crimes...for someone who already has 2 strikes against them...or should there be allowances?
Should someone really go to jail on this law for 25 yrs to life for something like walking through a store & drinking a soda without paying for it first?

Good question. I believe that the punishment must fit the crime.
If it's not a felony, the person should be punished separately and commensurate with the seriousness of the violation, not within the 3 strikes provisions, which should be only for felonies.

It depends on what the felony's are for. If the person had two prior theft convictions, then they shoplifted, then that is three. Same type crime, 3 strikes your out.

in my opinion if you've done it twice before, then why would you do it for a third time.?. Your asking for what you get. If your mother raised you right, then you should know right from wrong. common sense is what i call it. Some people just need to learn how to use their common sense, and if they don't know how then they better learn from someone with common sense quick. Unless they just have nothing better to do with their lives, and are completely clueless,retarded, and just don't care what happens to them. Drugs might play an important role in it to, so it really depends on the person.
