the person who isn't claiming maybe should check what they are entitled to at the benefit office or try citizens advice.

If you could prove that the person not moving in had no income, then it wouldnt change the benefits. But it would be very hard to prove, look at it from their point of view, how does someone live if they are not claiming benefits/doesnt work?
Just dont tell 'em, as long as no-one grasses, they wont be none the wiser

They will then consider you as a couple. all your benefits will be effected but that doesn't mean you wont get help, your partners wages will be taken into consideration and then they will work out what you are intitaled to that way. Only piece of advice I can give you really is to go to the citizens advice bureau, they will give you free confidential advice and should be able to calculate what you will be getting.

If someone moves in, then ur classed as living together as if ur married to them in which case you need to make a new joint claim for benefits or get a job! HTH

If she has moved in with you & is working then your benefits depending on circumstances may be affected,if she has just moved in as another tenant different room or floor etc then it doesn`t matter the law is plain but, use your common sense & I am sure you can work out something?

It is not just a matter of calling someone up-information has to be checked and verified, other outside agency's information has to be cross checked, reams of paperwork have to be completed, previous employers have to be contacted, previous council tax and housing benefit information has to be known-all manner of stuff. There is only one way to do this and that is properly, not via the phone!!And could i just say to ORIGINALB-IBRAHIM-DEMIS,and indeed anyone else out there who thinks it is easy to get money off the social security, these people ARE watching, and they AREchecking up,BEWARE!!!

Council tax goes up, other benefits like tax credits are effected. Surely somebody should be working though?

The council tax will go up but if the other person isnt working either I dont think anything else will change. You MUST inform them though otherwise you could be prosecuted.

if the partner is a man he has to claim for woman.(old fashioned i know). 25% discount on council tax is lost as there is more than one adult.
