It means that they are blaming their childhood for their adult problems instead of taking responsibility for their actions.

It means they were abused as a child - for example, if you were scared to be outside of your room and your ***** mother would flip over a gameboard that you were playing by yourself, even though it was for two or more people. That would be repressing, and very much damaging. That was me growing up.
