the original motor was a 400 but it blew so i threw in a 350 v8 from a lemans sport with 82 thousand original miles but i had to use the 2 barrel from the lemans sport but stroking it will upgrade my carburator to a 4 barrel and new intake manifold ,

should i also use a double roller timing chain ?

and would my car be fast when stroked to a 383 or should i have the forge internals done for the nitrous.?

Yup if you are going to do it use a double chain and when you stroke it you will see a difference on the motor!! But if you are spraying it depending on how much you are spraying it forged internals are a must! Stud the heads and the crank and you can spray it with a 250 shot!! Good luck!!

not sure why you would really do any of this, 383 are nice, they run well, should be well balanced, but my advice, if you have to ask these questions, have a shop throw you together an engine. the 350 that you have with a proper cam for the application your seeking, carb and intake will add a decent amount of power. Problem is with the block you have it is probably a 2 bolt main or you will have to find out anyways, if you stroke it or add nitrous you will want a 4 bolt, Nitrous will need forged and relieved pistons(again, send it to the shop if you have no prior exp) Nitrous will also require more then just engine work, a stock trans will not hold up to extreem pressure that some shots of nitrous can add... Personaly for reliability, I would stick with a mild build of the 350, with no stroking, you should still be able to obtain 350-400hp bench hp and rev to 6500rpms or there abouts with not many issues, that should be plenty for that car and can use a stock 2 bolt block. Anything over about 400hp is going to require an aftermarket crank and connecting rods.

Will it be fast enough for YOU? Personally, a well-built 383 would be plenty fast for me and I wouldn't want to put nitrous on it anyway, because its pretty rough on engines in general. Now, super-chargers are fun though....

... and as far as the timing chain, you really dont NEED a double roller, but if it makes you feel better, go for it. Plus you can brag about it. But any quality single gears / chains should work just fine. The good ones are usually rated for 900 HP or so.

stroking weakens the crankshaft because the journals are now smaller. Seems to be it would be cheaper to get another 400 and put that in.
