I live alone and use a Scottish Power pre-pay electricity meter, which I top up an average of six times a month at £5 a time. I try to avoid using things like my cooker during peak hours, and keep everything turned off apart from my water heater and fridge during the night or when I'm not in.

We pay £48.50 for gas and £43.50 for electricity and we are with British Gas. There are four people in our house. Two adults and two children. Your monthly payments do seem high I thought I was paying too much as I am currently £170 in credit. Asked them for my money back and they refused. Am planning to change suppliers you should try uswitch.com to find out if you would be cheaper elsewhere.

This seems very high to me, we live in a large 2 bedroomed flat in Aberdeen ( it gets really cold here ), on average we spend £5.00 a week on gas and £4.00 a week on electricity. I am at home all day, however we never waste anything, we sold our dishwasher, we don't have a tumble drier ( everything gets pegged out or dried on radiators ) and our heating & hot water is from a combi gas boiler, we never bath just take daily showers ( electric ), we never ever eat convenience food, all our meals are cooked from scratch which are cooked on/in our electric cooker, we never leave lights on unnecessarily or tv etc on standby. We are very environmentally friendly. Our energy is supplied by Scottish Gas. I hope you manage to reduce your bills.

you have defined Al Gore. Reject the ability guzzling mansion and preaching. The earth has sessions of heat temperature and chilly over 1000's of years, so any organic phenomenon should not be preached against and a modest domicile might use much less power.
