It all depends what colour the water is if it is green or orange your heat core is leaking and needs changing if its just like regular water clear than does it only get wet when your a/c is on? your tube for the water condensation of your a/c is hit by someone that was in your passenger seat and is aiming inside your car instead of it going outside the car!! Look under the dash at the passengers feet you might need to take off some plastic coverings depending on the type of vehicle to get a better view and find a rubber tube towards the firewall coming off of a plastic box if that rubber hose is slightly off you have found the problem!!!

Your heater core is leaking, could be craked, hosed could be loose. Without know the type of car all I can tell you is bring it to a shop. If its an older car, and you dont care about heat, take the two hoses that go back to the fire wall, disconnect them and then join those two together in a loop, bolts in the hoses to plug it is not usually going to work depending on the car and I dont think its a good idea. If you need heat, only two things you can do, bring to shop or rip apart the underside of the dash and replace it your self. Also, as long as you keep the fluid up, your car will NOT over heat from a cracked or leaking heater core. Just filtering through what others have wrote.

Had a similar difficulty with my 2003 V5 Passat. i spotted that the LH A placed up trim ( the interior trim that runs parallel with the front show ) replaced right into a darker color. when I felt it, it replaced into moist and when I speeded up, water ran from the headliner onto the back of the rear seat . in case you have a sunroof geared up , open it completely and using some thing like an empty squeezy bottle , sqirt water into the LH front corner of the sunroof aperture the place the drain hollow is. If this is sparkling, water could drain away and run out a "flap" located between the LHF door hinges. If no longer, enable the pool build up slightly and stick some delicate skinny flexable cord down the tube and paintings it from side to side some situations, the pooled water will help carry the blockage away.

As an emergency fix, locate the two heater hoses that go through the firewall from the engine to the cabin and disconnect them. Block them off with large bolts and place a clamp around the end. Refill the car's radiator and you are away.
WARNING!! only do this when the car's engine is cold, otherwise you may severely injure yourself!
If the car is air-conditioned, replacing the heater element is a major disaster.

The heater core is leaking and needs to be replaced. A temporary fix, is put radiator stop leak in the radiator and run the heater wide open for about 10 minutes. Master tech 40 yrs.

The 2 main reasons (UK cars)
Start by looking under the wet part of the floor and see if there are any holes / rust.
Check that the windscreens seal is not damaged.
I doubt that the heating system is faulty as your car will also be overheating due to the loss of water

It is the heating matrix. just turn the heating to off that should stop it, if it don't then block the hoses that go through from the engine with clamps (cheap method)
if you let it carry on the motor will over heat!
I take it this is a car not worth too much so replacing parts in this part of the engine is quite costly so suffer the cold, I did once in my lorry driving back from Greece.

First off stop the water from coming in and soaking the carpet.
Why? Black mold. Mold can cause breathing problems....and other problems.
Move the car to a spot that won't be a problem...till you fix the radiator....if that is the problem. Just stop the water.
Plz dry the carpet quickly...and check for mold. If you find black mold........it needs to be removed.

if its not coming in from the rain, then check and see if youre losing water ifso then its definately your heater core. thats why youre steaming up thru your defroster. heater core is right inexpensive, just takes a little mechanical mind.get you a manual for your type auto. but it is your heater core leaking. heater core is located under the passenger side of your dash you will see it it is enclosed in a box.
