99.9% of them are related to shoot outs so why don't people get the hint that guns should be locked up either that or half the teenege American population. I remember watching a Documentary one night and in one of the states when you opened a BANK ACCOUNT you actually got A FREE GUN!!!!...Am I the only one that sees' how messed up that is??!!

GUNS DO NOT KILL PEOPLE!!! People kill people, if it was not for a gun then it would be knives, clubs, fists, you name it... Guns are nothing more then a tool that was devoloped to help humans live. A gun in the hands of a properly trained person is not going to hurt anything. Think of this, should we outlaw cars? they kill more people, but we all drive or ride in one.... maybe ban fire? it kills people... Thing is, and I am not going to call you dumb, cause your not and everyone is entitled to there opinion, We need to stop putting the blame on inatimate objects and put it on the people that commit these crimes. There are studies done that prove that the conceal and carry that some countrys have adopted actually lowering the violent crime rate also ;)

Sorry you dont approve of my answer, obviously this is supposed to be an anti gun group. The reason I answered in the way I did was the rest of what you wrote seems to be more of an issue then "why its so easy for Americans to get their hands on guns". 99.9% of guns are not used in shoot outs, guns are no longer just a tool of destruction like one of the other commentors, shooting is a sport and does not always involve shooting living things, in fact most shooting does not involve hitting anything living at all. Guns are easy to obtain due to theft, black market, gangs... Those people who actually obtained there guns legal like at least in the last 10 or so years had to go through a screening and they are not the ones usually commiting any violent crimes. Im guessing you are from Europe? did you know your governments wants(ed) to ban pointed steak knives hopeing to curb "Crimes of Passion"? when will they stop telling you how to live your life.... God bless America and our Freedoms we have. Like I said we are all entitled to our opinion, but I dont care for the negative reaction I got from you on my responce, so maybe do some research before you ask another question. ;)

Where do you get your statistics "99.9% of them are related to shoot outs"? There are millions of gun owners in America. Do you hear about millions of shoot outs per year? No. Do you hear about millions of murders per year? No. I think you have your number inverted. 0.1% of guns used in crimes is more reasonable.
Teens do not have ready access to firearms as you may think. You must be 18 to purchase firearm. Also most states, if not all, have laws concerning firearem storage at home. It is usually illegal for children to have ready access to the guns in the home. If a teen brings a gun to school, they have already broken some law.
If someone wants to do something wacko, it is not because they have access to a gun and would not deter them if they did not. A couple of years ago a guy in California purposely drove his car onto a playground killing a couple of kids. I think something similar happened in England.
I can see your point that it seems that ready access to a killing tool can make a crime more easy to commit, but look at Australia, England and Canada. They all pretty much outlawed private ownership of firearms and all have had an increase in crime since.

It is a problem in USA, to be sure. However, no one gets a free gun because not everyone has the right to own one. To buy a gun one must be of legal age and have a clean police record. Then, there is a waiting period from the time one purchases a weapon until the time he/she take possession of it....... The second ammendment of the constitution guantees that Americans have the right to "bear arms" to defend ourselves. The controversy is in the meaning of this ammendment.... does it apply to private citizens or does it mean we shall have a militia to protect our country? What was the intent of our founding fathers? That is is big question over the years.

It's absolutely ludicrous.

It's the third school day in a row that a school killing has happened. 60% of US households own guns and 60% of homicides/ suicides happen with guns. See the correlation?

The problem is the gun lobby is very powerful to stop implementation of common sense laws. Meanwhile more citizens die by the gun... Sad state of affairs...

EDIT; To Ogre - Cars and Fire? Come on, people die in accidents and cars and fire have vital uses. Guns are used for shooting and killing - period. And if killing could happen by the fist or the knife why do 60% of murderers choose the gun?

Why are you not able to see this?
