I'm planning a trip there (from MA) the first couple of weeks in November. I was wondering what the average temp is there, so I can plan accordingly. warm clothes, sweaters, etc.

It never snows here, so you can leave the winter jacket at home, but it is also not going to be like the weather you see on "Baywatch" either. November in San Francisco is usually crisp in the morning, in the high 40s or low 50s and then warming up nicely to about 60 by mid-afternoon. Most days are sunny and cool, but it is the start of the rainy season, so you have to be prepared for rain.

Rain is usually different on the West Coast than on the East Coast: for some reason we tend to have three or four days of drizzle instead of a downpour, though I have definitely seen the latter happen.

Dress in layers, like the locals, and bring and umbrella and you should be fine. If you are taking transit, you will be walking quite a bit, so that warms you up as well.

The weather is a bit strange. I am from NY, and MA weather is probably close to what we get here. San Francisco tends to be about 10 degrees cooler in the summer than NY and about 10 degrees warmer in the winter. You can probably leave the hat and gloves at home, but bring a couple of light sweaters and a warm jacket.

November is just before the rainy season hits here, so things should be nice. Assume shirt sleeves during the day but bring a jacket or sweater at night. The wind can get strong and is damp coming off the ocean. 60 F during the day is probably average and around 45-50 at night, but nighttime does bring the damp ocean wind that will make it feel colder.

It's hard to call. Last November it was not too cold (upper 50s lower 60s) but had bouts of cold days (upper 40s lower 50s). Two years ago, November was a cold month (in the 40s). Make sure you follow weather.com for the weather forecast. Have at least a light sweater/jacket, and maybe a decent overcoat to be safe.

You can go to My yahoo and check on the San Francisco weather. You can monitor it daily and compare with it your weather in MA. I was in San Francisco last year from Thanksgiving to the last week of December. Last year, it was raining even in December. One thing, there is no snow here compared to the East Coast. Always bring in your jacket.

The reason you see so many San Francisco sweatshirts is because visitors leave their hotel and its nice but starting about 4pm we turn on the air conditioner (FOG) and your caught without your warm clothing. SO buy a sweatshirt.
