It has a black and a white/black lead casing (as it was a 2 prong plug). I have cut the asian plug off and wish to attach to a UK plug. Any idea how to wire this into a UK plug (i.e.which wire goes to Live, neutral, earth)?

Did You save the Asian Plug ? Since it is a 2 Prong Plug, it is probably a 120 Volt Lamp. Look at the Label on the Lamp that will Indicate the Voltage required for the Lamp. Also, Look on the Bulb itself to determine the Voltage. I Believe that the Outlet Voltage in the UK is 220 Volts. So, You'll either have to get a Plug In Step Down Transformer, or a Different Voltage Bulb that will fit into the Lamp, whichever is more Economical. With 2 "Hot" Leads, and 1 Neutral Lead, You may be able to get 120 Volts from the UK Outlet by Purchasing a Plug that You Wire up Yourself using only 2 of the Prongs.Get a Voltmeter, and set it to A~C Volts, and Measure the Voltage of a UK Outlet to get 120 Volts A~C on 2 Prongs. That will be how to Wire your Lamp Cord up. But, if You don't Wire it up Properly, You might put 220 Volts to Your Bulb, and Destroy it. Also, if You do use 2 Wires to get 120 Volts, Connect the Black Lead of the Lamp to the "Hot" Wire of the Outlet, and the White Wire to the Neutral, Ground. Then, if the Lamp does work Ok, and it's Metal, take a Voltmeter, Set it to A~C Volts, and Measure from the Lamp's Body to a good Ground, like a Radiator, and find out if 120 Volts shows. If it does, the Lamp might present a Shock Hazard. Get to know someone that is familiar with Electrical Outlets that can Help You with this. To Pay an Electrician might cost a bit, but if this is a Lamp that You want to Use, it'll be worth it. You might also go to an Electrical Supply Store, and Ask if there are Outlet Plugs that You can purchase with the Directions. But do get a Volmeter. Everyone should have One. Hope this Helps !

Malaysia plug and UK plug should be the same unless you bought the China made product. So what you can do now is ignore the earth. Use only the live and neutral if you still want to change it.
