How long do I have to study for to be a qualified vet?

Usually 6 years. Almost all Veterinary schools in America accept students who have 2 years of University training (although there are some which accept students with only 45 credit hours).

My son is a vet, completed 2 years of biology at George Washington University, and then went to Cornell for 4 years to get his DVM. His daughter (my grandaughter) just completed 2 years of sciences at UC-Irvine and just started her D.V.M at Colorado State, and everybody in her class has only 2 or 3 years of University. She was worried that because she didn't have a degree she would be out of place. But she wasn't.
